Are you a bit dazed on how to handle marijuana in the workplace? Although marijuana is legal in some states, it is not legal under federal law. What should employers do to protect themselves and also ensure compliance with the state and federal laws? Attendees can find the answer to this question, and more, during this practical presentation. Topics covered during this luncheon include an overview of the state and federal laws for recreational and medical marijuana use in the workplace, as well as an employer’s duty to accommodate, drug testing, and workplace policies. Employers will leave this presentation with an understanding of what is required by law for compliance so they can avoid potential legal pitfalls.

Keynote Speaker and VIA Member Dawn Irizarry is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Carothers DiSante & Freudenberger LLP, a California-based labor and employment defense law firm with five offices spanning the state. Dawn’s practice focuses on defending her clients in phases of civil litigation involving claims of sexual harassment, discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, defamation, failure to accommodate and other employment-related disputes. She also counsels her clients and is a regular presenter on the best practices employers with workforces in California can take to avoid litigation in the first place.
