Senator Scott Wilk - Coronavirus Update

Below please find information regarding the timeline for Unemployment insurance Payments and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance. I realize this is an incredibly difficult time and these funds are needed by many Californians sooner rather than later. My office is open and ready to help you with these issues as well.

Please note that these funds are retroactive to the time before the federal stimulus bill was passed, meaning if your application is approved you may be eligible to receive benefits going back to the first full week of February.

Labor Secretary Issues Open Letter to Californians Regarding Unemployment Insurance (UI) Payments and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Timeline

Sacramento, CA— California Labor Secretary Julie A. Su issued an open letter to unemployed and self-employed Californians who are seeking benefits through unemployment insurance or the new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program.

In the letter, Su stated workers are processing claims from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily with continued increases in staffing in order to deliver payment on most claims in a three-week window.

The letter also outlined a rough timeline for the launch of PUA. “We need two weeks to create this new technology — set up the system, test it and be able to turn payments around,” wrote Su. “This new system will be able to pay individuals within 24 to 48 hours of their application.”

A copy of the letter can be found here:  https://www.labor.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Labor-Secretary-Letter-04.14.20.pdf
