Goals/Objective

To stay informed on legislative matters which affect businesses either positively or negatively, and to relay this information to any and all interested VIA Members in a timely fashion. Ultimately, to develop an advocacy group (such as a Business PAC, which the Chamber of Commerce had done) to heighten information for the VIA members and to become advocates for certain key issues.

Committee Meetings

VIA members are invited to attend and participate in the Government Affairs Committee of the SCV Chamber of Commerce the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 11:45 AM. As an officer of VIA and the Chamber, Connie Worden Roberts attends these meetings and reports on the activities of both organizations. Reports are given at the VIA Board meetings and luncheons relative to significant legislation that may impact businesses positively or negatively.

Legislative representatives from the offices of Congressman Mckeon, Senator Wm. J. Knight, Assemblyman Keith Richman and Senator Tom McClintock regularly attend and report at the Chamber’s monthly meetings. They keep the Chamber and VIA apprised of issues that affect this area.

Articles, relative to legislations affecting business are frequently written and appear in the Chamber of Commerce publication, The California Journal, with the definitive articles often addressing legislation, is available in the VIA office and are available to VIA members.
